Rotary District Grants

Without the support of many Rotary Clubs providing funds and having those funds doubled using Rotary district grants, we would not have a school that is finished and equipped to the standard that it is.

Below are some of the amazing projects that we have been able to secure, thanks to Rotary clubs:

The Rotary Club of Bedford, Bedford Inner Wheel – and District 1260

The lovely ladies at the Bedford Inner Wheel raised £1,245 at their International Dinner, at which Sally was the speaker. This was an awesome result and this funding was put together with a donation of £855 from The Rotary Club of Bedford – resulting in £2,100 raised in total. District 1260 have matched this with a District Grant of £2,000 so that the total amounts to £4,100. This will purchase 11 laptops for the children at Bombolulu Secondary School. They currently only have 6 laptops between 35 of them and from the beginning of January 2024, there will be 70 pupils. This will mean that the school will have a total of 17 laptops. Thus not so many trying to share one. Absolutely super and our thanks to the Bedford Inner Wheel, RC Bedford and John Moss in Foundation at District 1260. Thank you.

The Rotary Club of Leicester – and District 1070

The Rotary Club of Leicester donated the funding so that the girls can all have period pants. These are not only preventing the girls from missing out on 25% of their education during their periods but is an amazing environmental project too.

No longer will rags and cotton wool end up in landfill. These pants give the girls the confidence to go to school knowing that they are protected and comfortable.

Interestingly, we listened to the women’s football team and decided to make the shorts and skirts burgundy and the tops white instead of the other way around which was the original plan. Again it adds to the confidence of our girls.

The Rotary Club of Harpenden Village – and District 1260

The Rotary Club of Harpenden Village astonished us at a recent meeting when a member donated his winnings from their ‘pick the jocker’ fundraiser. Added to this the club donated funding themselves thus totalling £1,000. Extraordinary! District 1260 Foundation approved the matching for this amount and consequently we have the funding to purchase books, uniforms and air conditioning in the kitchen by the time the next intake of students joins us in January 2024. Thank you all. Super project.

The Rotary Clubs of St Neots, Ramsey, Peterborough Ortons, Huntingdon, Melton Mowbray, Ashby de la Zouch, Ashby de la Zouch Castle, Ashby de la Zouch Hastings, Wellingborough Hatton, Lutterworth, Peterborough and Northampton – and District 1070

This is a multi-club district grant and covers some major items of expenditure. The most expensive part was for a fence surrounding the school and playground. We take safeguarding very seriously at Bombolulu Secondary School and the fence will keep out unwanted visitors. It keeps our children, and particularly our girls, safe.

The grant also covered the purchase of uniforms, shoes, a fridge, a printer and laptops.

The Rotary Club of Sleaford – and District 1070

The Rotary Club of Sleaford donated £2,000 which was matched by district which gave us £4,000 to totally transform the school into a first-class place of learning for both children and staff. We can’t thank you enough for this grant as it has given us a school to be truly proud of.

Supporting Rotary in Kenya

Empowering Kids in Kenya and Bombolulu Secondary School actively support Rotary in Kenya.

Our school manager, chair of the board of governors plus two further members of the board of governors are Rotarians. This is really important to this charity as it means that projects and day to day activities of the school are exceedingly well managed.
