The magic of trade aid

Trade Aid provides sewing machines and practical tools

Withe the relatively recent changes in the Kenyan secondary school syllabus, experiential learning and practical work related education are two themes that are central to the new system. That means an emphasis on what the children are expected to be able to do rather than what they are expected to know. With that in mind, the school was over the moon to receive the totally free gift of six Traid Aid boxes.

Four came with sewing machines and all the accessories likely to be needed. There was a carpenter’s box and a handyman box, both full of tools. As you can see from the pictures, there is a lot in these boxes. It will mean we can teach the children directly work related skills, helping them to escape the poverty trap. The handyman box will also help the school to become more self sufficient for running building and facility repairs.

A huge thank you to Trade Aid

Special thanks go to Ken Billington and the Rotary Club of Granthan Kesteven for this super initiative that they operate. Their aim is to help individuals, families and businesses to become self sufficient. Their website has some super success stories of people and organisations they have helped, across Africa and beyond.

As always, we have to give thanks to DHL, these boxes were delivered to the school from the UK by their annual free delivery that sends so many and so much donated material to the school for the children and the community.
