The Big Give helped us to raise vital funds

The Big Give Christmas Challenge
One donation, twice the impact

The Big Give helped to save Bombolulu School

It’s a great charity initiative. You just give once and the Big Give matches your donation, helping to change lives through free education for the poorest.

Using the Big Give organisation, which helps all types of charities, we were able to raise over £20,000 which helps enormously with the running costs of the school and gives us a head start towards the next phase of the urgent and vital building work.

Huge thanks goes to everyone who very kindly helped us with donations.

These children need help to keep their school going and keep them off the streets

Bombolulu Secondary School provides an education to the very poorest of the poor in this poverty stricken suburb of Mombasa. Education, food and uniforms are all provided totally free of charge. Because secondary schooling is not free in Kenya, (if places are available, and they are scarce) – we support the children who would be out on the streets or in menial jobs (if they could find one at just 12 years old) or perhaps married off as child brides.

After the government recently changed the education structure at short notice, there is a desperate need for secondary school places in the region. We were just able to raise the funds for the land for one floor of the school with three classrooms, plus the playground required by law. That allows for the intake for the first two years of the early secondary structure, with the second year starting in January 2024.

We need to raise a total of £52,000 for the next floor and extra classrooms by the summer of 2024 to get the building in place for the final year’s intake. Without this, the school would not be able to obtain an operating licence and would have to close.

Thanks again to all our donors and to the Big Give for all their help. We still need to raise a lot of money for the building though.

This year the initiative ran from 28 November to 5 December 2023. We hope to be back at the same time next year, the need for funding a school is never ending.

Please help us to build a future for these children
